BeInSync Stands Apart from Google in Protecting User Privacy

Unique access and synchronization technology avoids privacy concerns voiced over latest Google product

TEL-AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 21, 2006 — In light of recent mounting privacy fears around Google's latest product, BeInSync reminds users and potential users that its namesake software offers total privacy by using unique Peer-to-Peer technology that avoids storing of customer data on its servers.

Recently, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Gartner analysts and the general public have voiced concern over Google Desktop's new features that allow users to search across multiple computers, share data and access it remotely. According to the EFF, this may put user privacy at risk:

"Google today announced a new "feature" of its Google Desktop software that greatly increases the risk to consumer privacy. If a consumer chooses to use it... (it will) store copies of the user's Word documents, PDFs, spreadsheets and other text-based documents on Google's own servers .... EFF urges consumers not to use this feature, because it will make their personal data more vulnerable to subpoenas from the government and possibly private litigants, while providing a convenient one-stop-shop for hackers who've obtained a user's Google password."

Gartner has also expressed similar concerns. In a February 16, 2006 report, Gartner's Whit Andrews states, "Google Desktop 3 beta poses a security risk to many companies and use of the software should be tightly controlled."

BeInSync avoids potential conflict because its technology takes a different approach. By relying on Peer-to-Peer communication technology to create personal, private networks of user PCs and data, BeInSync eliminates the need for storing customer files on BeInSync's servers, or on any third-party server. When accessing or sharing a file using BeInSync, the file content is sent directly from the peer PC. Additionally, BeInSync encrypts all communications, so neither BeInSync personnel nor malicious third parties can decipher them.

BeInSync goes further than competing products by ensuring that not even a user's file listings are ever stored on its servers. Through advanced, secure P2P synchronization technology, BeInSync ensures no outside party can learn anything about data being accessed, shared or synchronized using BeInSync.

"Above all else, we value our users' privacy," said Tal Barnoach, CEO of BeInSync. "We go to great lengths to ensure the customers who trust us with their files cannot be compromised. Our service provides the backbone over which data moves from PC to PC, without the need for us ever to store or process it in any way. The use of P2P technology for this purpose makes it possible for us to offer the highest levels of both security and privacy."

It's an awesome product. I'm always working on separate computers. This syncs everything up. Previously didn't know where my data was. Now I it's always there.

«… it seems to work great and was even easy to set up behind the various firewalls I must deal with at work and home »
